Samples are applied to cylindrical wells cut into an agarose gel containing mono-specific antibody to the protein of interest. The sample diffuses radially through the gel forming antibody-antigen complexes which produce a precipitin ring. The ring diameter is related to the concentration of antigen present in the sample.
RID is a simple technique which requires minimal equipment. Our kits contain RID plates, calibration and control materials along with sample diluent and full instructions for use.
Rings may be measured using a simple Jeweller's eye-piece, or for higher through-put laboratories, a Digital RID Plate Reader can be used. Both are available from the Binding Site.
Binding Site has a wide range of RID kits, including complement functional and quantitative assays. Low level detection is also possible using latex-enhanced NANORID technology.
