Using Hevylite for response Assessment in IgA Myeloma

This summary paper reviews various utilities of Hevylite compared to current laboratory techniques and concludes:

- IgA Hevylite assays may reduce the requirement for total IgA and IFE assays.
- Hevylite assays accurately quantify monoclonal proteins that co-migrate with other serum proteins or that have a diffuse electrophoretic migration, and simplify the reporting of results.
- When tumour burden is low, the Hevylite ratio provides information on immunoglobulin clonality.
- In response assessment Hevylite provides comparable results to SPE, giving additional information on residual disease and relapse in some cases
